THE TWO CONCEPTS / Draft Model

THEME / Sustainability ARCHITECTS / Servo Stockholm (Concept: The Organic) Le Corbusier (Concept: Structure) Interpretation // I have approached my chosen concepts of 'The Organic' and 'Structure' through form and decoration. The first image is a sketch I did which relates to Servo Stockholms use of biomimicry in design. The facade of the entry to the tram stop is supposed to reflect a fanning leaf or palm, whilst acting as a sustainable method of shading the interior spaces. The second image is a combination of my understanding of Servo Stockholms use of biomimicry through the use of a facade drawn from bee hive structures, as well as Le Corbusier's notion of structure and 'lifting' buildings on pilots to free the ground beneath. EXP 3 THEMES | The Bridge

Chosen Article: Pedestrian Bridge / JLCG Arquitectos The sinuous and segmented design of the bridge winds above the valley, along a distance of about 220 m. The central bay takes the perpendicularity to the line of the valley. The other two sections are inflected and oriented towards their anchoring points. The connection between the two points is no longer the shortest distance between them. The tensioned geometry of its layout interferes with visual orientation and with the perception of dominating heights of “Serra da Estrela”, on one side, and with the vastness of Cova da Beira on the lower side. Chosen Words: 1) Sinuous 2) Segmented 3) Geometric 4) Inflected 5) Tensioned Sentence: Conventional architectural ideas surrounding structure can be inflected in order to appreciate the segmented, sinuous, fluid characteristics which inform innovative design. EXP 2 CONCEPTS / LE CORBUSIER & SERVO STOCKHOLM

PROJECT 2 INFORMATION BACKGROUND Light Rail is coming to UNSW. There will be two stops at the Kensington campus; the Lower Campus stop on Anzac Parade will be located adjacent to the main pedestrian entrance at ‘University Mall’. Choose an architectural concept that was created, developed or challenged by each of the two Architects chosen by your tutor. Use one of these concepts to create a light rail stop that addresses one of the following three themes 1) technology, 2) sustainability , 3) the multicultural students and staff who study or work at UNSW . Use the second concept to help situate the light rail stop within its urban context.
